- Follow application recommendations, rate of EB-S, generally 0.15 gallon/sq. yard for extreme duty and the dilution, generally 5:1 for topical applications.
- Do not apply Earthbind© on a wet surface! The dilution will carry the Earthbind© into the soil and when the water evaporates, the EB-S will stay and bind and lock the aggregate. If the surface is wet, the EB-S will not penetrate as well, and the surface will appear really black in color.
- Dry time is simply a factor of the weather, but to be sure the surface is dry enough, so it does not pick up on tires. Generally, in 70-degree weather it’s an hour or two or sooner.
- Allow the surface to have 12-24 hours dry time before any rain event. Again, weather dependent, if it’s warm and windy it will dry sooner.
- There is no chemistry that one can apply and walk away and think it will solve dust for 6-12 months. You need to maintain with a lighter application semiannually or as dust dictates. The turns are where the first abrasion in the road occurs.
- Soil and aggregate must have a 4-5% soil moisture to begin. When stabilizing at a 4:1, (recommended), it will bring the total soil moisture up to around 12%, ideal. Now, it is important to use the “hamburger test”, this is where you grab finished stabilized soil in your fist, squeeze it and all particles stay intact, not runny and not falling apart.
- When stabilization has occurred, simply strike it off with a grader to smooth it off. Do not use the mold board of the grader to roll large amounts of material thinking you need to mix it, that has already occurred with the pulverizing machine. Strike it off and begin compaction with steel drum vibratory roller. Generally, one to two passes with vibratory and one to two without vibration to make a nice smooth surface. If when compacting and you see small cracks, you have completed the compaction process. If you need a side shot of water from the water truck just to seal it go ahead.
- Stay off surface for several hours. Again, its weather dependent and it’s important to walk on the surface every few hours to check it and if it gets dry, try rolling a front tire of a pickup on it a few feet to see how it reacts.
- Overnight dry time is best.
- A 4” deep stabilization with asphalt millings will dry very fast, much quicker than native soils.
